Every year people take to traveling across the globe to discover what’s out there in the world. However, as much as we would like it to be, it’s not the safest activity to undertake. Saying that, danger can be around the corner from where you live, so it’s not about avoiding the activity altogether, but about managing the risks and taking precautions to stay safe. Here’s how to stay safe when backpacking…

Get Travel Insurance
This is the first step you take to staying safe. It’s well and good trying to prevent disaster from striking, but sometimes it’s out of your hands. Whether someone has taken all your money or you have fallen sick, taking out good, comprehensive travel insurance will save your back when you need it most. It’s the most crucial thing to have when backpacking.
Always Pre-Book Your Accommodation
Make sure you do your research on where you’re staying! Look at some of the reviews and scout out some of the possible dangers associated with the place. It will help you to be aware of what’s around you. Also, try and check in when it’s daylight so that you’re not in a vulnerable position as you arrive.

Bring An Updated Medical Kit
Bringing a medical kit from home is great, but you will also want to make sure you’re prepared for some of the risks the other country might pose. If you go to your doctor, they will recommend certain medications based on your location. For example, visiting some places in Africa, they may recommend taking antibiotics with you and effective anti-histamines. It will also give you peace of mind to bring medications you’re familiar with.
Pack A Doorstop
It doesn’t matter where you are, prevention is always the way to go. Bringing a doorstop and a cable lock will provide you with safety wherever you go. The doorstop goes on the inside of your door, so no one can get in even if they do manage to unlock the door.
Divide your cash
Make sure you don’t keep your cash or documentation in one place. Split them up, make copies of your papers, and store them in secret places. This way it’s less likely all of your money will be taken.
Backpacking can be thrilling, but it’s not so fun when something goes wrong. So, preparing to be safe is always the best method.
These Are All Of the Shows That Won’t Be Returning
You can imagine how many TV shows don’t make it to another season, and that may make you wonder what shows got the ax this year. Below, we will look at some of the shows that will not be around this year.
Bless This Mess
This show lasted for two seasons before getting removed from the schedule. The show follows a young couple who leaves their life in New York to run a Nebraska farm that the husband inherits after his aunt passed away.

Unfortunately, the quirky and unique sitcom didn’t get any boost in its viewership, and that meant it won’t get a third season.
Emergence
This cop thriller follows a recently divorced police chief as she dives deep into an investigation centered around a young girl with amnesia that she found at the scene of an accident. The investigation leads to some crazy conspiracies and very interesting symbolism.

Starting with low ratings, the hope was that the show would gain viewers as it went on. Unfortunately, the ratings only got worse, so ABC had to remove it from their lineup.
Kids Say the Darndest Things
Who said reboots are just for those beloved ’80s and ’90s television shows? This updated version of the show where we watch cute kids say some very funny things was hosted by the hilarious Tiffany Haddish.

Like most other shows that will appear on this list, this show got the ax because of low ratings. Unfortunately, that means we won’t get another season of this lighthearted feel-good show.
Schooled
Many sitcoms have given birth to spin-offs, and one of the most recent was this spin-off from The Goldbergs. Schooled takes us into the life of the teachers at William Penn Academy.

This series lasted two seasons and didn’t have terrible ratings, coming in 4th when it came to sitcoms, but even that decent ranking couldn’t save it. It may have been the drop in viewership from the first to second season that made this a choice that ABC had to make.
Single Parents
Being a single parent is hard, especially if there is almost no support system. This show took that very real scenario and formed its story around a group of single parents who form a support group. This group helps them with parenting and the struggles of new relationships.

This show started out strong, but unfortunately, the ratings dropped significantly through the season. In the end, the show ended up in the 12th spot of all the shows on ABC, and that means it doesn’t get a second chance.
Stumptown
This show was a crime drama whose main character was a retired marine veteran who comes home and becomes a private investigator. While solving crimes, she also has the responsibility of taking care of her special-needs brother.

Though it had a good fan base and even decent ratings, delays in production due to the world situation seemed to be the culprit of the cancellation. The delays kept them from filming for the fall season, so ABC opted to not move forward. (There are rumors that it is being shopped to other networks, though, so maybe we will see it back on the air somewhere.)
United We Fall
This show was a sitcom that brought us into the life of a couple with several young kids and a wacky group of extended family. Then, they bring their grandma into the mix, who just happens to be very judgmental.

This comedy never got a viewership that would warrant a second season. Unfortunately, it won’t be returning.
Utopia
Amazon joins the ranks of this list with its fantasy/mystery/drama Utopia, which is a show that follows a group of online friends who find a rare graphic novel. It just so happens that this graphic novel brings them into conflict with a deep state organization and a plot to destroy the world.

Amazon released its decision without much of a reason. Most feel that the show was just a little too expensive to keep going and didn’t yield enough buzz to balance out the costs.
Tommy
This drama starring Edie Falco joined the 2020 schedule with big hopes due to its star power. The story takes us into the world where a highly decorated NYPD officer becomes the first female Chief of the LAPD.

CBS had a lot of dramas on the slate this season, and unfortunately, this one did not score well with the demographic it targeted. In fact, it came in next to last despite decent ratings.
Katy Keene
With the reimagination of several Archies comics into angsty teen shows, it was only a matter of time before another one was added to the slate. Katy Keene is a designer who just so happens to room with the up-and-coming music star, Josie (from Riverdale, another show on the CW).

This cancellation has nothing to do with the popularity of this spin-off but rather the optioning rights. Because of this, parent company Warner Bros. is looking to find a way to keep the show going.
Deputy
When the LA County Sheriff passes away, a deputy who is not used to playing by the rules or being responsible for anyone but himself is thrust into the role. This action drama centers on this character and the trials he goes through in taming his Clint Eastwood style of law enforcement.

Fox did not wait until the last minute to let fans know that this would be the only season of the show. Ratings and the cost of filming the show seem to be the reason that the show got the heave-ho.
Filthy Rich
With a cast headed by Kim Cattrall, you might assume that this show was a shoo-in for another season. Unfortunately, it wasn’t. The show is about a wealthy southern family who is conniving and ambitious, especially when it comes to the family fortune.

This show fell to what most shows fall to – poor ratings. Unable to hit the mark with its demographic, Fox decided to move on.
Next
This show was a thriller that took place in an AI research facility. Headed by a former government agent, he and his team work to stop an international crisis that is launched by a rogue AI who wants to improve itself.

When it came to ratings and viewership, this series just didn’t hit the mark, either. Not reaching the metrics needed, the show was given the ax after just a single season.
Outmatched
Jason Biggs and Maggie Lawson are average parents who are trying to raise their ultra-smart kids in this Fox sitcom. Though the big wigs at Fox loved the leads, it doesn’t seem like that was enough to save the show.

The show suffered from two main issues. The first was creative, as it just doesn’t seem to fit with the creativity of the current Fox schedule. That, coupled with low ratings, made it an easy decision to not give it another season.
Siren
This series made it three seasons before being taken off the slate for Freeform. The series takes place in a town that was once rumored to be the home of mermaids. Then, a young girl appears, and it seems that the rumors may just be true.

This series started out strong. It was a big hit in 2018, and the second season did fairly well, also. However, this last season dove in the ratings, and that may have just been its siren song.
The Outsider
This is a crime drama that turns into a supernatural thriller as the show progresses. Starting with a normal investigation, as the lead detective moves closer to solving the crime, supernatural forces suddenly make themselves known.

HBO didn’t give any reason why it wasn’t moving forward with a second season. It seems strange to some, seeing as how it had very good ratings. That may be why the production studio that created it is looking to find another home for it.
The Baker and the Beauty
This US version of an Israeli romantic comedy follows the burgeoning relationship between a baker and an international star. When Daniel meets and falls in love with a beautiful Hollywood starlet, his life and his family is changed forever.

In the end, this fun romantic comedy didn’t get enough viewers (it was one of the shows with the lowest ratings) for ABC to keep it on the slate for the next fall season.
Run
This comedy thriller introduces two old flames who have decided to run off together for a week. During this week, trouble finds them, and the police get involved. They keep running as a very persistent female law enforcement officer trails them.

This show’s cancellation has nothing to do with the ratings or even the budget but rather how the second season would be filmed. With no definitive way to carry on with the season one showrunner, HBO decided to just let it go.
Castle Rock
This unique amalgamation of Stephen King novels aired for two seasons on Hulu. Set in the town of Castle Rock, this show cleverly tied multiple stories together using an ensemble of characters to breathe new life into them.

It had been a year since the last season, and it was obvious that Hulu would not move forward, but it wasn’t announced until recently. It may be because the show was produced through Warner Bros., which was busy launching HBO Max.
Harlots
Set in the 18th century, this show follows a proprietor at a house of ill repute and her struggle between what she does and her role as a mother. Things get interesting when a rival house begins making trouble for her.

There wasn’t much reason given for many of Hulu’s cancellations. With this one, it may be because of the cost of the production or maybe because they have so many more originals now than in the past.
High Fidelity
This re-envisioning of the popular film and adaptation of the novel with the same name doesn’t seem to have hit the right note. Following a music enthusiast who runs a record show, we are welcomed into her life and all that comes with it.

The show seemed to have the critics behind it and had good ratings. This show just seems to be another Hulu original whose demise will remain a mystery.
Reprisal
Revenge and hot pants are what you got when you watched Reprisal on Hulu. Following a woman who returns home to wreak havoc and get some just dessert on the gang that had taken her life from her, this show was an interesting one.

Like the rest of the shows let go by Hulu, this one doesn’t seem to have a reason to back its cancellation. Though it did have weaker ratings than others, it was by no means a poor showing for a new show.
Bluff City Law
This drama was driven by the characters within its story. It is a courtroom drama that is centered on a highly reputable Memphis law firm that is known for winning big civil rights cases, and they happen to take on their largest case to date as the show begins.

Though it was preceded by The Voice, this show was unable to keep the attention of the audience who was already watching NBC. This inability to keep the audience led to low ratings and its cancellation.
Council of Dads
After receiving bad news from his doctors, a father reaches out to his closest friends. He asks these men to jump in to be back-up dads in case anything happens. The foursome soon comes to realize there is a lot more to parenting than they thought.

Unfortunately, like many of the shows on this list, the biggest reason it isn’t moving forward is that it couldn’t get enough eyes to watch it.
Indebted
This show got a lot of press when it was announced, as it was the return of the incomparable Fran Drescher. The sitcom brought us along for the adventure of having one of the couple’s parents move back in with them just as they were about to get back to having a life.

Though it had the star power, the show just didn’t get the ratings that the execs needed it to, so it got the ax.
Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt For the Bone Collector
This show was a re-envisioning of the popular film and adaptation of the novel that the movie was based on. After a notorious serial killer returns, forensics genius Lincoln Rhyme returns to duty to help catch him.

Though it had a lot of potential, the show couldn’t get enough viewership in its targeted demographic. Because of this, it couldn’t be saved from this cancellation list.
Perfect Harmony
An Ivy League college professor finds himself in a small town. There, he begins to head the small town choir, and soon they are finding their voices. Along the way, he begins to form relationships with a lot of these interesting characters.

The ratings were the culprit, as you might guess, when it comes to why this series is not going forward. Those who were getting their musical needs fulfilled may need to look elsewhere.
Sunnyside
A fallen NYC politician is hired by a group of immigrants to help them on their path to citizenship. Along the way, he rebuilds his reputation and finds a more powerful calling. The comedy has struggled greatly since its premiere.

The ratings were never there, so the remaining episodes will not air on regular television. However, you will be able to find them streaming probably on Peacock, NBC’s streaming service.
Altered Carbon
The science-fiction show made it for two seasons, but unfortunately, it will not be returning for a third. In a world where your conscience can be revived (but in a new body), immortality seems to be in everyone’s hands. Sometimes, that leads to past lives and crimes following you.

The decision not to pick up another season was directly related to the viewership and cost of the renewal. Netflix decided that it wasn’t cost-effective enough to go on with another season.
Astronomy Club: The Sketch Show
This sketch comedy show on Netflix uses comedy to address real-world topics. The show touched on everything from pop culture phenomenon to social issues. Although that sounds like a hard thing to make funny, the show was able to do it fairly well.

Like many of the cancellations on streaming services, the final decision to not go on with the show is about viewership.
Away
This show on Netflix had a lot of star power, with Hilary Swank as the lead. She plays an astronaut who is getting ready for a mission to Mars. This drama exhibits her struggle to reconcile the fact that she is leaving her family behind to venture into space.

The viewership of the show against the cost was just not worth it for Netflix, even though the show did have some good ratings.
The Big Show Show
Retired professional wrestler, The Big Show, stars in this family sitcom. Surprisingly enough, he plays himself, and this comedy follows him as he tries to adjust to normal life after years of being on the road.

The show was received with a mediocre viewership, and unfortunately, that means that it is thrown in the pile with the rest of the canceled shows. Too bad they couldn’t kick out.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance
This prequel to the popular 1980s Jim Henson film reintroduces us to the world of Thra before the purge of the Gelflings. Three Gelflings find out the truth about the power of the Skesis and try to fight back.

The ratings of this show were not quite where they thought it would be, and the cost was very expensive. We will just have to wait for Jim Henson’s company to find new ways to bring us into their world.
Giri/Haji
When a Tokyo detective’s brother goes missing, he takes a trip to London to find his brother. During the investigation, he finds out that his brother was involved in Japanese organized crime and had been accused of murder.

The show has gotten rave reviews from critics and viewers alike. However, to make room for other dramas, the BBC and Netflix decided it wasn’t going to go forward with the second season.
Glow
Glow, or Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling, was a phenomenon in the ’80s and ’90s. This show is a creative retelling of the creation of this wrestling show. The characters are wild, and each tells a story that the viewers could attach to.

This show had previously been okayed for another season, but due to production shutdown, Netflix opted to reverse the decision – yet another casualty of the current world situation.
Hoops
This animated show focused on the life of a basketball coach who is quick to fly off the handle and scream some curse words. Even with these attributes, the coach cares about the team and knows he can turn it around in hopes of getting to the big time.

The show received poor reviews from the get-go. Going up against other high-quality animated shows on the streaming service, it didn’t have a chance.
I Am Not Okay With This
This is a coming-of-age drama about a young girl dealing with her family and her sexuality. On top of that, she has some new superpowers. The show had a decently strong youth following, but it was clearly not enough.

This show may have been a victim of the uncertainty in production schedules due to the current world situation. Though there has been no statement on the actual reason, this seems to be the most likely.
Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj
This show was hosted by the very witty Hasan Minhaj, who tackled current events and other cultural structures. The comedian brings his own humor to the facts and debates of the world.

This genre has been tough to make work on Netflix, but even still, this show made it for 6 seasons, which is quite good.
The Society
After all the residents of a small town disappear, the teens are left to build their own society. These teens navigate forming a sense of order while trying to figure out what happened. Many describe this as a Lord of the Flies-esque show.

This, like several other shows, was a casualty of the current uncertainty when it comes to production schedules. In fact, it had previously been renewed, but because of this, Netflix went back on its decision.
Teenage Bounty Hunters
A pair of twins team up with an experienced bounty hunter. The girls start to get into catching bail-skipping criminals, but they still have to deal with all the pressures of teenage life, too.

It seems like there was no bailout for the show. The show didn’t have a good viewership versus the cost. That, coupled with production shutdowns, seems to have doomed this quirky show.
