You arrive at your desired abroad destination and get off the plane. Next, you pick up your bags and find the car rental office where you have a reservation for a rent-a-car. Are you going to be ready when they ask you to present your international driver’s license? This is all too often a problem, considering it’s either required or strongly recommended by more than 150 countries for foreign drivers.
Read the recommendations below for more information regarding pre-travel preparation.
What Is an International Driving Permit?
First things first, it is not a license. Your real license is what you will have to keep with your international one. The permit is a small booklet about the size of a passport, which is issued by the American Automobile Association (AAA) or the American Automobile Touring Alliance (AATA).

The permit is a document that translates your American-issued driver’s license into ten different languages, which can be used abroad. It gives you the right to drive and operate a vehicle in any of the countries that accept it.
Do I Still Need One If It’s Not Required?
It is recommended that you still get one, just in case. Without an international driving permit, you may not be able to communicate effectively with authorities if you are pulled over and you don’t speak the language.
What If I Drive Without One?
The penalties for driving without an international permit can depend on the country and its laws. Common penalties include fines, jail time, and deportation.
How Long Is It Valid?
An intentional driving permit is valid for 12 months from the date of the issue.

How Do I Get One?
Head to your AAA branch with two passport-sized pictures, and fill out an application, either online or in person. Be sure to also bring your driver’s license. The cost is $20. If you’re out of the country, you can apply by mail, but it can take up to six weeks to process, and it comes with a hefty $75-100 shipping fee.
Once you have your intentional driving permit, you are all ready for your abroad adventure!
You Won’t Believe How These Celebrity Grandchildren Look Now
For most of us, it is unlikely that we will ever watch our grandparents rock it out on stage, or fight fictional crime on the big screen like the grandchildren of celebrities. You would probably never even know these celebrities had grandchildren, but you may wish you were their grandchild!
Goldie Hawn
She started her career as the girl from the 1960s hit TV show, Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, and Goldie Hawn went on to become an Academy Award-winning actress. Meanwhile, Goldie is the mother of Oliver Hudson, Kate Hudson, and Wyatt Russell, and a grandmother of five, and soon to become six. Speaking to World Entertainment News Network, Hawn said, “I love being a grandmother. When I was pregnant, I knew the exact right thing to do, having a baby, and I feel exactly the same about being a grandmother.”

Pierce Brosnan
Brosnan first became a grandfather when his daughter, Charlotte, gave birth in 1998. Not everyone can say their grandfather was James Bond, but his three grandchildren certainly can.

Donny Osmond
Donny Osmond may be famous for his good looks and singing talents, but it is well-known that he comes from a big family. Away from performing with his seven siblings, Donny married and became a father to five sons. It is no surprise then that the Osmond family are continuing to grow, and Donny is already a grandfather of ten – nine boys and one girl! He first became a grandpa in 2005, and we can only imagine the sweet sounding lullabies he has graced all his grandchildren with.

Ozzy Osbourne
The Osbourne’s popularity grew after the release of their own reality show, which showed a lot of cursing and content of an adult nature. We now hope that is a thing of the past since the Prince of Darkness and his ever so vibrant wife, Sharon, are now grandparents to Pearl and Andy from their son Jack Osbourne. Ozzy is already a grandpa to four children from a previous marriage, so we can imagine things get a little crazy when the grandkids come to stay.

Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi Goldberg is an award-winning actress, known for featuring in many films and being a true Hollywood treasure. However, Goldberg is a grandmother and has been for over twenty years. Having had her daughter, Alexandrea when she was 18-years-old, Alexandrea had her own daughter when she was just 16. That means that Whoopi has been a grandmother since she was 34-years-old. Now a grandmother of three, one of Alexandrea’s daughters had a child of her own, making Whoopi a great-grandmother.

Kid Rock
When Kid Rock’s son, Robert Ritchie, Jr. welcomed a baby girl in 2015 on Christmas Day, he made his rock star father a grandfather at the age of 44. Kid Rock had raised his son as a single father and was overjoyed to welcome a granddaughter. The Detroit hip-hop artist turned Southern roots-rocker spoke of what the young girl would grow up to call him. He said “‘I’m going Southern all the way,” and decided on Paw Paw.

Martha Stewart
Martha Stewart has done it all; she has written several cooking books, hosted her very own television show, and even served a prison sentence. However, what has brought her the most joy in life is her family, and her daughter Alexis made her a grandmother for the first time in 2011, with her second grandchild born exactly a year later. Jude and Truman are the young tots that Martha loves to spend time with, and they would often visit her on the set of her cooking programs.

Cee Lo Green
If you’re starting to think Cee Lo Green may be a lot older than you originally thought, then no need. Green is, in fact, 43, and the Gnarls Barkley star became a grandfather when he was just 35. For many, this is the time just to start having kids of your own, let alone grandchildren. However, Green’s stepdaughter gave birth to a little boy when she was 20-years-old, making Cee Lo a young grandfather. It will probably be a while till the young boy hears his grandfathers hit single.

Kiefer Sutherland
While playing Jack Bauer on 24, Kiefer was not just learning to fight terrorists. He was taking on his favorite role at the same time when his stepdaughter Michelle welcomed a son in 2005, making Kiefer a grandpa. Speaking of his grandson, the actor said, “His name is Hamish Adam Kiefer Sinclair, he’s four-and-a-half and he’s a train wreck. He already looks like a failed boxer. He falls down a lot and he gets cut up and he’s just beautiful.”

Jim Carrey
Jim Carrey has embarked on many roles during his acting career, and there proves never to be a dull moment in the comedian’s life. In 2010, he took on the biggest role of all, however, when his daughter welcomed a baby boy and made Carrey a grandfather. Speaking to Access Reporter following the young tot’s birth, he said, “I love being granddaddy, granddaddy Jim,” he continued. “I just get a lot of joy, a lot of joy from that little boy.”

Tina Turner
It must be cool to say your grandmother once performed with Beyonce, but then again it must be pretty cool to say your grandma is actually Tina Turner who Beyonce performed with. Even at 78-years-old, Turner is envied for her toned legs and can still rock a stage when she is set to perform. Not many grandmothers can say they can do the same as Turner, but the legendary singer has two grandchildren from her son, and they certainly have a superstar grandmother.

Billy Crystal
Billy Crystal must have been proud to show off his work to his grandkids once they were old enough to understand what he did for a living and see him in films. Having confessed that he does ‘enjoy being around the kids,’ when speaking of his grandchildren, he mentioned, “When they understood that I was Mike Wazowski in Monsters Inc, I had to talk like him for six months. It drove me crazy. Then they saw The Princess Bride, and I had to be Miracle Max for six months.”

June Shannon
Having made a name for herself from the trashy, yet heavily popular, TV show, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, June Shannon is featured alongside her young daughter on the reality hit. However, June has another daughter, Anna Shannon who gave birth to a baby girl in 2013 named Kaitlyn. Both girls were featured on the reality show, and June would call the baby “Gigi’s baby” for some reason. Anna has since gone onto have another daughter named Kylee, making June a grandma for the second time.

Tony Danza
Tony Danza won the hearts of many when he starred as Tony Banta in the show Taxi from the late 70’s. However, becoming a grandfather in 2005 is what stole Danza’s heart. The father of four became a grandpa while in his mid-50’s, and he admitted that he felt very special when he got this new role. Speaking about the newfound role, Danza expressed, “I want to be the guy who takes my grandson fishing and the guy he wants to go fishing with.”

Sir Mick Jagger
Sir Mick Jagger has been a grandfather since 1992, and the same year he welcomed his fourth grandchild, he also welcomed his first great-grandchild. In 2014, the babies were born within four weeks of each other, and it was a bittersweet year since it also marked the death of Jagger’s lover, L’Wren Scott. With many people being a fan of Sir Mick, we’re sure his grandkids will have no problem looking up to their legendary and rockstar grandpa.

Brett Favre
During the same time Brett Favre was playing in the NFL for the Vikings, his daughter had given birth to a son in 2010. At the time, the NFL pointed out that there were no other current players who could say they held the same grandparent status. Just like Brett was used to doing, the former NFL player meets philanthropist set the record once again by taking on this new role. Now aged 48, Brett is the proud grandfather of three grandsons, and he hopes they chose a ‘safer’ sport than football.

Michael Bolton
When Michael Bolton spoke to People about becoming a grandfather in 2010, he mentioned how he was excited but also slightly nervous about welcoming the new addition. Speaking of adopting his new found title of grandpa, he admitted, “It’s so weird, I’m going to figure out how to own that.” Michael has had no problem when it comes to performing out on stage, that we’re sure he took on the role of a rockstar grandpa and had a new number one fan.

He was blessed with another grandchild in 2012, a girl named Beatrice.

NeNe Leakes
She is the center of drama on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and Nene Leakes likes to get her voice across. She perhaps would have had to watch her voice levels, however, when her son had a baby girl in 2012 named Bri’Asia. Any trip to grandma’s house is sure going to be interesting since NeNe is known to enjoy pole dancing or a dinner party with her equally dramatic group of friends. Let’s just hope the number of cuss words has been reduced at least.

Snoop Dogg
Trying to imagine Snoop Dogg as a grandfather may be a hard thing to do. However, it’s time to believe it because the rapper is, in fact, a proud grandfather to his grandson, Zion. Just as Snoop Dogg is not afraid to hide what goes on in his life, he was sure not shy when it came to introducing the world to little, baby Zion.

Ava Marie has also been blessed by not one, but two, super cool grandfathers.

He is best known to the public as Cedric the Entertainer, but for one little girl, he is known as “GrandCeddy.” Cedric became a grandfather when his first granddaughter Kylo Faith was born in 2016. While he is “GrandCeddy” to her, she is “Doll” for him, probably because of how tiny she was when she was born. The Barbershop star is certainly someone who is going to spoil his young granddaughter and provide her with a huge amount of entertainment; we are sure this is one great grandpa to have.

David and Tamela Mann
The gospel singing couple has been married for 30 years and welcomed four children together. While they have achieved great success in the entertainment world, they have remained devout Christians and shown how important family is to them.
