Many of us are working tirelessly around the clock. A large part of this is due to the e-mail culture we live in. However, Hawaii plans on doing something about this, at least for New York workaholics.

According to a recent survey, over 60 percent of people work when they are on vacation. The survey was carried out by the Hawaii Tourism Association. However, 83 percent of workers reportedly feel like they are more productive when allowed to work in an environment other than their usual office setting.

In light of this survey, Hawaii is planning to host a number of New Yorkers (six, specifically) who are stressed out from their working endeavors. A week-long work escape is part of the deal.

The initiative “Work From Hawaii” is being organized by Hawaii Tourism United States and aims to provide six New Yorkers with a stress-free holiday where they can work from the Pacific location.

Anyone from doctors and lawyers to singers and writers will have the chance to come to Hawaii for a diversion from their work routine. Each person will be placed in a different Hawaiian location: the island of Hawaii, Lanai, Maui, Oahu, Kauai, and Molokai.

However, the selected six need to be extra lucky as each destination caters to a different type of profession. If one is successful though, they will be entitled to a number of luxuries during their weeklong stay.

Each destination includes a Wi-Fi friendly workspace, daily meal budgets, and an itinerary full of cool things to do. This includes visiting the royal residence of the one and only King Kamehameha.

Those who have more creative-oriented professions will be taken to the “Design Loft.” This will give one the opportunity to socialize and work with Honolulu’s many talented local artists. This program is available for New Yorkers who are aged between 24 and 36 and they must have an Instagram account that is open to the public.

Sometimes people do the right things for the wrong reasons. This could be a white lie to keep someone happy or a more elaborate plan to help someone out, but each one is done with good intentions in mind – no matter how things turned out. These people took a risk and made potentially bad decisions with good intentions in mind.

Extracurricular activities can mean a lot to kids. For this kid, the karate class they attended twice a week made them feel a lot more confident in themselves. They were even close to moving up to their next belt color!

However, one night they overheard their parents talking about the financial trouble they were facing. When their parents approached them the next day about quitting their karate classes, they lied and said they hated the classes so their parents wouldn’t feel bad.

Not everyone has the ideal family picture and that can take a toll on a child’s life. After all, a father that left can really cause a bit of trauma.

This is another story of a lie told to save feelings, but this one was from a parent to a child. Their father had left his family to be with another woman so this parent bought their child extra gifts and told them they were from his dad.

When people get older, certain tasks get harder. However, when it comes down to choices like giving up your license, it can be hard to let go. That’s the choice this person faced when they were arguing with their grandfather.

During a stalemate argument between the grandfather and father in this family, this person shouted “think fast!” and tossed a ball at their grandfather. The ball hit him and his grandchild asked him what if that ball was a child in front of his car. He relinquished his license the next week.

This person’s nana had been in the hospital for two months when she contracted sepsis. This put her in a coma for a week and her daughter took pictures throughout the process to track her progress.

When she woke up and saw the pictures, their nana was embarrassed and didn’t want to show anyone. So her grandchild took her picture with a Snapchat filter that covered imperfections. The picture charmed her and she was so excited at how much she’d improved.

It’s ingrained in many of us not to pick on people younger or smaller than us. However, sometimes standing up for someone is an important cause that overrides this.

When they were 14, this person spent a lot of time at a tennis day camp where they became friends with another 8-year-old camper. Unfortunately, there was another group of 8-year-old campers frequently making fun of their friend. So, they ended up telling the group off.

When this person was a clerk at a grocery store, their job was to make sure they helped customers and ensure everything was lawfully purchased and fully paid for. Unfortunately, these two responsibilities weren’t always mutually exclusive.

If they saw a customer nervously watching their transaction while they tried to decide what to put back, they’d “accidentally” forget to scan an item. This was usually an essential item that came at quite an expense such as diapers or meat.

This story is rather bittersweet. This person cheated on their boyfriend when they were 21 years old and regretted the decision. They shared that they knew the decision was wrong and that they’d hurt him.

So, later on, they picked a fight with him and which eventually encouraged him to end the relationship rather than being broken up with via a harsh admission. They shared that it wasn’t until he left them that they realized they were in love with him.

Losing someone is never easy and everyone has ways to cope with it. Children especially often come up with interesting ways to remember their loved ones. In these siblings’ case, they believed finding coins was a message from their aunt.

One day, the older sibling’s little brother was having a pretty serious meltdown so his sibling made sure to leave coins all over his room. The idea behind this was that he was receiving a message from their aunt and his sibling reported that it calmed him down right away.

Taking care of someone in sickness and in health isn’t simply reserved for marriage. In this case, it was a sister that stepped up to change her brother’s situation a little for the better when he was struggling with a nasty case of strep throat.

Bending academic ethics a bit, this sibling went ahead and did all the work that she knew her brother knew how to do. This way, he could relax more and focus on getting better rather than stressing about schoolwork during his recovery.

It’s hard to watch an animal go through something like abuse. After all, they can’t get out of the situation themselves and sometimes help doesn’t come when you call it.

When this happened, this person took matters into their own hands and stole the dog away. They re-homed the dog with a loving family of four, and their one morally ambiguous act managed to change that dog’s life for the better. We’re thinking they don’t regret a thing!

Once in a while, we all need an extra day off of work. However, it’s pretty wholesome when you call in sick only to use that day making someone else’s life better.

In this case, this person took the day off of work and made sure to use the whole day to take their dogs to the park. As they enjoyed their puppy cones, meeting new and old furry friends, and swimming, there was no mistake knowing this was a good day to take off.

When this person met their future husband, there was a catch: he was very allergic to cats. Unfortunately, with three cats, this person had to face a tough choice. They could only keep one cat – the rest went to their mom.

In the end, they decided that since the three cats were brothers, they should stay together. To make sure that they weren’t sad without one another, the three cats relocated together. It was sad, but it made them happier in the end.

This user had a story to share about their little sister. She made a new friend at school but her friend was struggling. Specifically, her friend was getting bullied for having hand-me-down clothes.

One day, the younger sister came home and beamed up at her sister and told her that the bully wouldn’t bother her friend anymore. She had taken it on herself to show the bully up in dodgeball and hit her so hard in the stomach she got sick.

When you’re a young child, there’s a lot that’s hard to wrap your head around. After all, you’re still learning about the world. It can also lead to some wholesome but terribly misled decisions.

This child made the choice to steal their uncle’s fishing weight from his kit. Why? Well, they thought this was what killed the fish when they were reeled in – they just wanted to make sure the fish lived another day.

While working at a grocery store warehouse, this person was responsible for distributing pallets to different cages. This was essentially delegating the grocery items to which store in the chain they were going to go to.

At the end of the night, extra supplies were redistributed to stores that might need it. However, this worker swooped in to save the day by putting any excess supplies into a charity box. This made sure extras went to food banks rather than spares on shelves and in stockrooms.

Santa might not fly a sleigh every Christmas Eve but that doesn’t mean there aren’t people out there carrying out the spirit. In this case, this married couple enjoyed their Christmas celebrations by sharing the love.

They lived near a woman who was a single mother of four. Every year, they’d buy enough presents for the mom and her four kids and leave them on the doorstep. They’d then knock, run to their car, and leave. The woman never knew who the presents were from and there were a few white lies involved, but it was all for a good cause.

Another karate story on this list, a young girl overheard something awful in the changing room. An older girl she looked up to was being called every mean name in the book – even some the listener had never heard before.

Luckily, for her first match, she was paired with the bully. Without any hesitation, she delivered a swift roundhouse kick, earning a point. She followed the move up with a solid punch in the nose, putting the bully squarely back in his place.

This time, we have a historical bittersweet tale. Edward Jenner has gone down in history as a hero even though some of his research was done directly on children in early human trials.

This is a practice widely frowned on today since human trials are late-stage steps most of the time. However, his hypothesis worked and Jenner made a breakthrough that saved countless lives by inventing a smallpox immunization.

Most of the time, we’re told that we shouldn’t make an altercation physical. However, this child felt it was necessary to break the rule of “don’t hit a girl” when he was young.

While hanging out with his sister and another girl, the girl put a cigarette out in his sister’s hand. He quickly jumped in and punched her in the face. He says the decision wasn’t easy, but he was only defending his sister, and they were still children after all.

When we think of sweet revenge, we often think of the lengths adults take, but even children bend the rules to encourage more wholesome behavior in their peers.

This kid’s mom’s friend had a son that would come over and constantly break things and generally cause havoc but never got caught. One day, they wrote his name in big letters on the wall, even writing with their left hand and messing up letters. The kid got in trouble, finally reprimanded for poor behavior even if this one wasn’t his.

Anyone who’s been a college student before can attest to one universal truth: there’s a lot to do and not a lot of time and resources to do it. Juggling tasks such as working, going to school, and maintaining a healthy personal life can feel impossible.

This person supervised student workers for a time when they decided they’d bend company policy to help their students out. Whenever they sent a student home early, for example, they’d make sure that the student still got paid for their whole shift.

Again, kids often handle situations in impulsive ways. However, they often have wholesome motives behind their misguided actions. This child wasn’t afraid to get their hands dirty to help out their sister.

The backstory behind this is that their sister was struggling with cancer when another girl decided to make fun of her. This child didn’t know what else to do, so she hit the girl with the textbook she was holding. While it was harsh and probably more than a little extreme, she didn’t make fun of her again.

When you’re walking in the rain, the last thing you want is someone to splash you. That’s exactly what happened to two girls who were just trying to get to class without getting soaked.

Fortunately, someone saw this person who felt the need to purposely drive into a puddle to soak people. He followed him towards the parking lot and made sure to splash him when he was out as well. Karma is sometimes the best way to teach someone to think twice before they act!

In the workplace, we’re expected to put in our all and dedicate all our time to the tasks delegated to us. Sometimes, though, certain aspects of the job need a little more time than our superiors think.

This person works in asset protection and specializes in elderly and disabled clientele. When these clients passed, they would often lie to their boss and coworkers about how much time a task was taking to sneak in time to be there for the family.

When you’re young, you have a lot of good ideas but you don’t have the authority to give yourself the time to do them. That’s why every May, this person would feign being ill to get out of school.

While this is something that they definitely weren’t supposed to do, they were skipping out to make their mother a gift for mother’s day. In retrospect, they suspect that their secret wasn’t as well-hidden as they thought at the time.

Sometimes, the motive to steal something isn’t due to simply wanting it or using the experience as an adrenaline rush. Other times, it’s an answer to ongoing poverty or out of a short-term lack of money.

Store policies are in place for a reason, but sometimes they’re broken for a good reason. This is what happened when an employee witnessed a customer shoplifting and another customer went after them to help.

According to store policy, she was supposed to stay in the store until someone showed up to help handle the situation. However, she stepped outside to make sure that the customer who tried to help was okay. In the end, she broke the store policy but for a good reason.

Unfortunately, when many restaurants close out the day, they simply throw out any leftover food. This doesn’t earn them a profit and it leads to quite a bit of food waste but it’s the general policy of most establishments.

This employee broke the store policy to ensure that this food didn’t go to waste. Instead, as the end of the night came, they’d add a few extra chicken tenders to the meal. It wasn’t much but said they hated food waste and it made the customers smile.

When you work in retail, you often get a few benefits for your hard work. For instance, you might get an employee discount. This is what one employee got when they were working in a convenience store.

They didn’t use much of this discount on purchases for himself. Instead, when he saw families scraping together change for Christmas stocking gifts, they’d apply their staff discount to their purchase. They said that the customers’ faces would light up when they learned that their items were 40% off.

In pet stores, kittens and puppies are quick to get adopted. The unfortunate side to this is that older animals often don’t get adopted, even though they need a home just as much as small and “cute” baby animals.

To help lessen this, this person who worked as a manager at a big-box pet supply store made sure to offer cat supply coupons for pet owners who came in and adopted a cat eight years or older, even though the company policy said otherwise.

This employee worked at an electronics store that was running a promotion – if you got a scratch ticket, you could potentially win a discount or free item. The employee noticed that you could hold the tickets up to the light and see the prizes.

They kept the ticket in their pocket and waited until they saw someone who actually needed it. When they did, they offered them the ticket with the promise that they had a lucky feeling about it. This way, they got to pass on something good to someone who needed it.

This Reddit user shared a story about the actions they took when they were faced with a challenge at a young age. At 11 years old, they were close friends with another child who was feeling the effects of poverty.

In response, the user took an action that was legally questionable but morally wholesome. He’d steal food from his local supermarket and bring some over to his friend when he stopped by his house. This way, his friend could eat without putting himself at risk.

Certain necessities come with a high expense. For instance, keeping your car maintained so you can make it to obligations like work which allows you to earn the paycheck you need.

When this woman’s car broke down and she took it to a mechanic, the problem she was having meant it was company policy to have her car towed. Instead, the person working on her car broke the rules to make sure she had a new battery and running car without letting her suffer the expense.
